Fabric of America
(As told by Robert, seen here with son, Adam) Turmoil and danger
in our native land of Transylvania prompted our relative's
arduous journey in 1937 to America, in search of greater freedom
and safety. My father, Anton, and my uncle, Max, joined the army
and became tailors to make clothes for the soldiers. My father
used to say, "Without me, the army would have been naked and
would have never won the war." America has seen a great deal of
diversity stitched into its culture. So many people fled their
native lands and found new life through Ellis Island. Today, we
return to where it all began, to celebrate and honor our
ancestors who came through Ellis Island. This is what must be
remembered and preserved for the future.
